"Hi Sanjay,
I have fairly recently been exposed to Bollywood movies (more like coerced, kicking and screaming :-) -- thank God for english subtitles!) and much to my surprise & delight, I've grown a taste for the industry, though I lean towards the so-called off-beat cinema. Having seen you in Daman, Filhaal, and Jhankar Beats, I think you are one of the most under-rated actors in Mumbai. I have seen the site for My Brother Nikhil and read some reviews (was confused by one: it said your character goes to jail because he is HIV positive... didn\'t know that was a crime in India) Anyway, looking forward to watching it and will hold off judgement until then.
Do you have any other upcoming movies I should look for? -Jimmy "
- JIMMY |
Hi Jimmy,
Thanks for your mail and even more for taking interest in Indian movies. Well, My brother …NIKHIL is set between 1986-94 and during that time in some parts of the country there were some incidents where some people were kept in solitary confinement due to Aids. This stemmed mainly coz of ignorance about the disease. Later the law was changed.
Do get a dvd and try catching the film (with subtitles of course).
Love
Sanjay.

"Dear Sanjay
My name is Sunanda. i was born and raised in kashmir and now live in Denver, Colorado, u.s.a. i watched pinjar few days ago and thought that you were brilliant. I loved your performance in Pyar mein kabhi kabhi, but with Pinjar i think you have come a long way as an actor. Can't wait to see your next production, my brother-Nikhil. I really hope it does well. Being a fellow kashmiri i feel so proud to see you at the top and making a name for yourself. As someone who has gone through hard times in Kashmir like you did, it makes me even more proud that you are so focussed in your work. My two year old daughter, Meera, too is a big fan of you. Every time she sees, 'seeta ko dekhe' song in Pinjar she starts jumping around in joy. Anytime you come to u.s.a i would be happy to have you over at my house and yes , if you need any help in u.s let me know.
lots of love
sunanda "

"hi.,
Sanjay.
Well i have seen ur jankar beats and now want to see my brother nikhil but unfortunately it could not realese here well i am leaving in Rajkot @ Gujarat...
My question is do you think you should do such films only to prove your self.. coz you have done plan also but didnot like my most of your fans...
I have seen your almost every films and Pyaar mein kabhi kabhi was the best so far....
You have done such movies like Dil vil pyaar vyaar filhal... so i think for you its really a versatility ok you are not like other start but who ever your fans are according to them you are much better than the other starts....
In your fans you have made a special image... so I think you should continue doing films like this. Very few personalities having such soft and humble presentation style you have got....
This mail is not to make you happy just but I am sure this mail will increase your confidence... Of courcse you hade great confidence thats why you are here...
But then also I am sure in your mind there will be something like ... I am not like other start I am just ok...
Please dont... Coz your fans know how good you at acting you are not acting but playing live character in the movies... and thats what your fans needed...
Not every one can express what I make you realize what I feel about you...
My question was simple continue doing such movies or should do masala movies....
Well i dont think so but you might be thinking that it is neccesary to be know as an actor... but dont forget actor can be forgotten but acting never...
GOD BLESS YOU... "

"Hey Sanjay,
Came across the promos of your my brother nikhil....first let me applaud you by taking up such a role which many actors won't dare to play, second I think you will give Indian Cinema a new outlook and more realistic approach by producing this film. My question to you is while I understand that you wanted to bring out the concept of AIDS in this movie which is great but why was it important to play as a gay person when the main theme of the movie was geared towards AIDS.
The reason behind this question is that are indian movie goers ready to handle the gay concept just yet?...I mean just taking up the concept of AIDS was a brave and I should say 'risky" step since you are producing the film too....after that adding the gay concept on top of it would make it a bit more complicated for Indian movie goers to understand. I am sure this movie will remind me of this hollywood movie "Philadelphia" which was also excellent."
- NITIN |
Hi Nitin,
Thanks for your mail.
Firstly, the Indian movie audience definitely is very matured now and they are exposed to a lot and would be silly of us to under-estimate their intelligence just because a film has a gay angle in it. I think for the first time on Indian screen a relationship like this has been handled with care, dignity and sensitivity. If you felt it could have been made without this angle, then I think you missed out the point that in mid to late eighties Aids was considered either a white man disease or a homosexual one. Since we were dealing with an issue which sadly is dealt more on moral values rather than the disease itself, it was important to get this out.
As far as Philadelphia is concerned, a Vietnam war and a kargil war film is bound to have a certain inherent similarity.
Love,
Sanjay

"Hi, Sanjay,
First, I am so glad you have a webpage of ur own! I always wanted to know more about you after I saw Pyar Mei Kabhi Kabhi. I think you are the most underated actor... why don't you do more films? I miss seeing you...anyways, I am very much looking forward to My Brother NIkhil...I have told all my friend and even some I don't know about the film.
I am very sad, that the film is not releasing in U.S. -- God! Wonder why stupid audience here can watch any run of the mill movies .. and not some nice and meaningful movies.
Anyways, I don't know if I have a question for you or not.. but how about this... Would you do a film with me, if and when I become a director. I actually write stories like My Brother Nikhil... not about HIV or Gays, but some meaningful story lines.
C’mon.. Please Promise me... hehe
Please do some more films, PLEASE! :-)
Take care"
- BHOOMIKA |
Hi Bhumi,
Thanks for your mail. I am happy to hear that you watch my films and have been following my career right from PMKK. Well, just to answer one of your questions about why I don’t do many films…the answer is that I am not willing to do just about anything. Actors have to choose from what they are offered and I have only liked a few scripts that have been offered to me. Secondly, I have only worked with new directors all my life….so there definitely is a chance, for u!!!
Love,
Sanjay
